The Creativity Gene with Megan Green

Mrs. Green's career is probably one of the first professional associations we think of when we try to place creativity in a business. She is a Creative Manager and specializes in Graphic Design and Branding. Her creative philosophy resonates with her professional audiences. When I asked her for her definition of “Creativity” she said: “The balance of form and function.”

Megan has always been a creator, and I was lucky enough to have worked with her in the past. The wheels are always turning on how we can approach a situation differently. Through her 15+ years of expertise in this field, she has mastered the art of occupational creativity. Her unique perspective is intriguing and I am so excited to share her perspectives with you.

When do you think creativity first sparked within you?

Megan: I would like to think I have been creative since I was a kid. I never placed at the science fair but I always won Best Display!

How do you think this career came about for you?

Megan: In college, I thought going into Business would bring me the most success. But I quickly realized that I was not passionate about it. So I walked across Campus Drive at the University of Maryland, College Park, and registered for the Art Studio program, and officially started my creative journey.

How do you get into your flow or zone?

Megan: My approach to creativity is very goal-oriented. What is the message we are trying to convey, and what are we trying to achieve? Then I look for inspiration, how can we communicate that message to the targeted audience in a way that would resonate with them.

What inspires your creative work?

Megan: Inspiration comes from many places, but in my current role at Lake Trust Credit Union, the members and community we serve is my inspiration. Hearing stories of how we have helped our community drives our creative, because it is real, and it is authentic.

What are some challenges you face and how do you overcome them?

Megan: I think my biggest challenge most of the time is myself. I second guess myself a lot and get in my own creative way. I try to remind myself that my first instinct is usually the best. But I think all creatives are their own worst critic.

How do you resonate with your audiences?

Megan: Empathy. Without empathy, you assume too much about your audience, and you don't understand how they are digesting the creative you are giving to them. Without empathy, the message can easily be missed.

How do you want your creative to impact others?

Megan: I love to be helpful in any way I can. I love being able to use my creativity to help the audience understand, learn, or grow.
